Seasons for Hunting
Duck shooting season is between May to July. Canada geese, mallard and paradise ducks are the most common.
Paradise shelducks are popular among hunters. Shooting can be any time between February and September, with a limit of 15-20 per day.
Canada geese are especially popular for bird shooters. This bird is a resident in New Zealand and not migratory as they are in the Northern Hemisphere being introduced to New Zealand as a gift from President Theodore Roosevelt of the US.
Areas for Hunting
The North Canterbury region provides the best Canada geese shooting in New Zealand. Canada geese are to be found in great numbers around the high county of this region. Shooting is available between February to November. There are no limits to how many you can shoot.
