Hanmer Springs and its environs caters well for all tourist and recreational seeker’s tastes.
Hanmer Springs itself has the Hanmer Forest Park, the Hanmer Mountain range, the Hanmer ski fields, the Ferry Bridge bungy jumping, jet boating, and, of course, what it is most famous for: the Hanmer Springs thermal reserve, which is a huge attraction to both "R&R" seeker and tourist alike.
This mountainous region provides incredible views, skiing, boarding, tramping (hiking) and hunting. The beautiful mountain lakes such as Tennyson, Guyon and Sumner, and powerful rivers such as the Waiau, Clarence and Hurunui, provide scenery, wildlife, and fishing. The Forest Parks, and walkways include the Sumner Forest Park, the Hanmer Forest and the St James Walkway. All are very popular among trampers (hikers).
Nearby attractions include the Molesworth Station, the world-renowned farming run, has both historical interest and scenic attraction; Kaikoura, with its spectacular craggy coastline, crayfish, fishing, seals and whales is quite a draw-card; and Waipara Valley, with its many small vineyards and annual wine festival.
